Labour Court recommends Donegal Shirt Company concede £13,321.24 severance claim

The Labour Court recommended that Donegal Shirt Company (Austin Reed Group) concede in full the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim over severance payments for 32 workers. The recommendation was dated 12 October 1999. After the company closed its Lifford manufacturing operation, the parties agreed a redundancy package that included statutory redundancy and an ex-gratia payment. The union said £13,321.24 remained due because the company had miscalculated service for the ex-gratia payments. The company disputed that interpretation. The Court said the agreement meant all elements of the package should be calculated under the Redundancy Payments Acts, 1967–1991.
