In 1999, the Labour Court recommended that South Dublin County Council renew its offer to pay each worker moving to its Ballymount Road depot an amount equivalent to 20 hours’ basic pay. The recommendation was dated 22 June 1999. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Automobile, General Engineering and Mechanical Operatives Union sought higher travelling-time allowances or a lump sum for about 200 workers. They argued that the new depot would take longer to reach and lacked proper public transport. The Council said its existing allowance was sufficient and the depot was within the four-mile reporting radius. The Court recommended that the Council re-submit the offer it made on 8 April 1999.
