Labour Court recommends no Grade 7 upgrade for An Bord Trachtala worker

The Labour Court recommended that An Bord Trachtala not upgrade a worker from Grade 6 to Grade 7, but that any special pay arrangements keeping him above Grade 6’s maximum be maintained. The recommendation was dated 22 December 1998. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union argued that the worker’s responsibilities and job description before a 1991 merger warranted Grade 7. An Bord Trachtala said a job evaluation supported Grade 6, and the worker had not secured one of four upgrades in an open competition involving 31 Grade 6 employees. The Court said the assessment methods and explanation for his salary did not warrant Grade 7 designation.
