In 1998, the Labour Court recommended that St. Agnes' Primary School treat a worker who distributed food to pupils as an employee and increase her pay from 1 March 1999 in line with national wage agreements. The recommendation was dated 21 December 1998. The Court considered the stated rate of £4.11 per day not unreasonable for one hour's work, but noted it had not increased for four years. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union represented the worker. The school said it passed the Dublin Corporation grant on in full and could not top it up. The Court also urged the parties to discuss increasing grant-in-aid payments with the Corporation.
