In 1998, the Labour Court did not recommend a pay increase for a worker at Mitsui Denman Ireland Limited who had taken on duties previously performed by stores and pack-out staff. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought parity with a storeman who retained a shift allowance of about £54.54 a week. The company said employees had been compensated under a restructuring agreement for changes in work practices. The Court found that the worker’s additional duties were provided for in that agreement and declined to recommend concession of the union’s claim. The recommendation was dated 20 April 1998.
