The Labour Court recommended closing a dispute after Johnson Brothers Limited installed an additional security camera in its warehouse without the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s knowledge.
The company said it installed the camera to investigate stock discrepancies and removed it after identifying their cause. The Court said the company should have considered advising the union in a way that would not undermine the investigation, and hoped it would have regard to the union’s position if a similar situation arose. The recommendation was dated 13 March 1998.
