In 1998, the Labour Court recommended that Forbairt involve both the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union (IMPACT) and Manufacturing Science Finance (MSF) in negotiations over technical staff grading and progression. The dispute also concerned five inspectors transferred to Forbairt. The Court found the five inspectors were correctly graded T.1, but recommended they be allowed to progress to T.2 if they had the relevant qualifications and satisfactory service in Forbairt. It said automatic progression should be addressed in negotiations, with the inspectors treated as “red circled” if necessary. The recommendation was signed on 13 March 1998.
