Labour Court recommends 1% pay rise at Automatic Plastics

The Labour Court recommended a 1% pay increase for workers at Automatic Plastics Limited from 1 June 1997. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought the final phase of the Programme for Competitiveness and Work, including increases due from June 1996 and January 1997. Automatic Plastics said continuing losses meant it could not afford the full increase. The Court said costs needed to be contained to secure the company’s viability and employment. It also recommended confidential access to company accounts for the union representative and a review of pay obligations at the end of the financial year. The recommendation was dated 17 June 1997.
