The Labour Court rejected the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s appeal over an Aer Lingus worker’s unsuccessful bid for promotion to Grade 1, leaving the Rights Commissioner’s recommendation unchanged. The decision was dated 18 June 1997. The Station Control Officer, who had 31 years’ service, said poor selection procedures and a lack of staff assessments had disadvantaged him. Aer Lingus said he had not secured promotion because of his interview performance in a competitive process. The Court said management should improve communication with him and discuss a more transparent system with the union.
