In 1997, the Labour Court said Union Camp Ireland could introduce new technology after full consultation with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union. The recommendation was signed on 13 June 1997. The union said major changes required prior agreement and that consultation meant more than notifying it. It also sought renewed talks on the company's withdrawn Blueprint for Change. Union Camp Ireland said it had sought agreement to change proposals since 1995 and that its union and employees had been fully consulted on a planned replacement production unit. The Court recommended that the parties restart and complete discussions on the Blueprint for Change as soon as possible.
