In 1997, the Labour Court recommended that a worker take part in a retraining programme after a dispute with the Eastern Health Board and the Department of Health over recognition of her State Enrolled Nurse qualification. The recommendation was signed on 13 June 1997. The worker said the 1977 agreement discriminated against people who qualified after that year and that she had suffered financial loss. The Eastern Health Board said the “SEN (General)” wording in her contract was a clerical error. The Court found that both bodies continued to recognise her qualification and recommended that she participate in retraining when it was introduced.
