In 1997, the Labour Court found that Dunnes Stores had unfairly dismissed a worker after eight days and recommended a £500 lump sum and an apology.
The worker was hired for a meat counter supplied by Tender Meats. Dunnes Stores had an opportunity to check his references before offering him the job, but dismissed him over the references. The Court also found that the company had not regularised his employment or paid his notice. It issued the recommendation on 8 April 1997.
