The Labour Court recommended that five Bank Of Ireland porters accept a one-off £1,000 payment each after a reorganisation reduced porter numbers from seven to five. The Court signed its recommendation on 3 April 1997. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought an ongoing payment of £35 a week, citing staff cooperation and claimed annual savings of £30,000. The Bank said the number of staff served had fallen and offered the one-off payment. The Court found the offer reasonable and recommended that it be accepted.
