The Labour Court recommended implementing an arbitrator’s findings in the dispute between Wexford County Council and Wexford Town Firemen over fire service work practices. The recommendation was signed on 18 December 1996. The firemen sought to rescind the 1995 agreement and return to the 1985 agreement, saying further rostering could cut earnings. The Court found that negotiations had covered earlier agreements, including the 1985 agreement, and that the claimants had participated in the process leading to binding arbitration. It said no grounds had been put forward to disapply that outcome and did not recommend conceding the employees’ claims.
