The Labour Court recommended further discussions between Dublin Voluntary Hospitals and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union over whether rostered overtime should count towards pensions for 3,000 non-nursing workers. The recommendation was signed on 18 December 1996.
The union said the required overtime was regular and recurring, and that workers at other health agencies received the benefit. The hospitals said the rosters were unusual and including the overtime could create anomalies. The Court said the overtime might be regular and recurring, but considered that the circulars governing overtime had not envisaged these circumstances. It recommended further discussions, with conciliation assistance if needed, and said it could review the outcome if asked.
