Labour Court recommends talks on Blackthorn Shoes pay proposals

The Labour Court recommended that Blackthorn Shoes meet the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union to agree on implementing an Industrial Relations Officer’s proposals for phases one and two of the Programme for Competitiveness and Work. The recommendation was signed on 17 December 1996. The union sought the two pay phases from February 1995 and February 1996. Blackthorn Shoes said trading had deteriorated, it had shed 14 jobs and further costs could put more jobs at risk. The Court considered the October 1995 proposals not unreasonable, but took account of the company’s further deterioration and recommended talks on their implementation.
