Labour Court rejects forklift drivers’ pay claim at Irish Distillers

The Labour Court did not recommend concession of the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for a pay increase for forklift drivers at Irish Distillers Limited. The recommendation was signed on 27 September 1996. The union said the drivers handled more products and additional work after warehouse operations moved from Santry to the Fox and Geese plant. Irish Distillers said it had appointed an additional driver to handle any increase in volume. The Court recognised the workers’ co-operation with changes in the industry but found no merit in the union’s case.
