Labour Court recommends £500 and reference after Ticketron dismissal

In 1995, the Labour Court recommended that Ticketron pay a worker £500 and provide a suitable reference after finding her dismissal unfair. Its recommendation was signed on 8 November 1995. The worker said she had no written contract and had not been told her job would last less than 12 months. She said she learned of the dismissal only on the morning it happened. The Court considered Ticketron’s practice of dismissing workers before they reached 12 months, without telling them, an abuse of the system and the employee. She began work at Ticketron’s ticket office in Tallaght in September 1994 and was dismissed in July 1995. Ticketron did not attend the Labour Court hearing.
