Labour Court recommends safeguards for night staffing at St. Fintan's

Place: no local area assigned from the source.

In 1995, the Labour Court recommended that Midland Health Board set out when an extra nurse should be rostered at St. Fintan's Hospital and put procedures in place for violent situations when only two staff were on duty. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and Psychiatric Nurses' Association sought an extra nurse after attacks on nurses. The Board said its staffing was sufficient but accepted an additional nurse could be prudent in some situations. The Court said staffing could not eliminate every risk and that it had to be guided by medical expertise. The recommendation was signed on 4 October 1995.
