Labour Court recommends route to permanent Teagasc posts for long-serving temporary staff

The Labour Court recommended a route to permanent clerical and administrative posts for long-serving temporary staff at Teagasc. The recommendation was signed on 15 June 1995. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and IMPACT opposed requiring staff to compete in open competitions. Teagasc said some had been recruited without required ministerial sanction and that permanent public-service posts had to be open to qualified applicants. The Court found it would be inequitable to require employees with long service to enter open competition. It recommended accepting the Industrial Relations Officer’s proposal: staff already interviewed and on a panel for contract posts would become permanent without further selection, while other affected temporary employees would take part in a confined interview. The parties were to discuss any individual difficulties.
