The Labour Court recommended that Cow and Gate Nutricia (Wexford) and the Manufacturing Science Finance, Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, Amalgamated Engineering Electrical Union and Technical Engineering and Electrical Union negotiate a severance package for workers facing redundancy at the Wexford plant. The recommendation was signed on 27 June 1995. The company planned to move its Wexford operation to Macroom, Co Cork, with most jobs at the plant expected to be lost. The unions sought enhanced redundancy terms, including eight weeks’ pay for each year of service plus statutory entitlements. The Court recommended completing negotiations by the end of July 1995; if the parties did not agree, it would make a further recommendation at either side’s request.
