Labour Court recommends three-week August holiday shutdown at Baxter Healthcare

The Labour Court recommended that Baxter Healthcare keep a three-week August holiday period in 1995 and accommodate, as far as possible, workers who had made plans based on the company’s earlier schedule. The recommendation was signed on 22 May 1995. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said the proposed change had been made without consultation and would disrupt workers’ arrangements. Baxter Healthcare said customer supply needs made the summer shutdown difficult and that it had already published its 1995 schedule. The Court also recommended that the union accept the company’s holiday arrangements proposal from 1996. Baxter Healthcare employed 800 people at plants in Mayo, including 650 in Castlebar and 150 in Swinford.
