In 1995, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for two weeks’ pay for ten workers affected by renovations at a canteen managed by Sutcliffe Catering for Insurance Corporation of Ireland. The recommendation was signed on 3 May 1995. The union said workers faced noise, dust, smells and inconvenience during eight weeks of work. Sutcliffe Catering said it sealed off the kitchen, hired extra staff and asked builders to stop during the staff lunch period. The Court found insufficient grounds to recommend conceding the claim.
