In 1995, the Labour Court recommended accepting Dublin Ferry Port Terminals' position on redundancy payments for casual dockers. The recommendation was signed on 2 May 1995. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had also sought rehire rights and permanent positions for six casual dockers. The Court found that acceptance of the voluntary severance scheme, including its future-employment clause, altered the rehire position and did not sustain the union's case. It also found it would have been unrealistic to appoint the dockers permanently before the loss of the Pandora contract, and did not find that part of the union's case sustained.
