The Labour Court recommended that Aer Lingus introduce a 5.30 a.m. start for ten clerical staff at Shannon under its revised proposal, with efforts to improve the frequency of the shift and no less favourable treatment for part-time staff. The Court said cost-effective operations were needed for the airline to remain viable and secure employment. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had argued against more than one 5.30 a.m. start in 21 days and sought equal arrangements for part-time staff. Aer Lingus said the earlier start was essential to provide a cost-effective service for its schedule. The recommendation was signed on 24 April 1995.
