In 1995, the Labour Court recommended that Mercury Engineering Limited (Eca) pay £500 as an ex-gratia payment in full and final settlement of a dispute over chargehand allowances. Its decision was signed on 25 April 1995. Technical, Engineering And Electrical Union appealed the Rights Commissioner's recommendation concerning two maintenance fitters whose allowances stopped after they were re-employed. The Labour Court agreed with the Rights Commissioner's findings and amended the recommendation to specify the £500 payment.
