In 1995, the Labour Court recommended that Beamish and Crawford, represented by the Irish Business and Employers Confederation, and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union resume local negotiations over two proposed redundancies. The recommendation was signed on 1 March 1995. The union opposed compulsory redundancies, while the company said its rationalisation plan required them and relied on an independent expert report. The Court called for one final effort to reach agreement. If the sides had not agreed by 30 April 1995, the matter could return to the Court for a recommendation on the substantive issue without another hearing.
