In 1995, the Labour Court found Trinity College’s proposed pension scheme unsuitable for its part-time staff and recommended negotiations on a scheme providing them with a reasonable pension. The recommendation was signed on 21 February 1995. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought pension entitlements for about 210 part-time cleaners, secretaries and catering assistants on the same pro-rata basis as full-time staff. The Department of Education and the Department of Finance were also parties to the case.
