In 1995, the Labour Court rejected the Irish Cement Union Group’s claim to increase “Pot” payments to workers at Irish Cement Limited. It recommended continuing payments at their existing level if the sides could not agree a buy-out. The recommendation was signed on 21 February. The union argued that savings from an earlier rationalisation should increase the payments. The company opposed the cost and said the claim had already been considered. The Court found the claim unsupported, noting that much of the cited material had been before it in an earlier case, and again encouraged the parties to negotiate a buy-out.
