In 1995, the Labour Court found the National Union Of Journalists’ claim for higher expenses at Irish Press Newspapers Limited well-founded, but recommended negotiations in light of the company’s circumstances. The recommendation was signed on 24 January 1995. The union said the company was still paying 1986 expense rates and that workers preferred fixed allowances. Irish Press Newspapers Limited said it had left the Dublin Newspaper Managers' Committee and could not afford higher rates. The Court recommended that the parties meet to negotiate, taking the company’s special circumstances into account.
