In 1994, the Labour Court said Colas Building Products Limited had not sustained its reasons for dismissing a worker during probation. It recommended no compensation, saying compensation was not appropriate in the circumstances. The Court signed its recommendation on 7 December. The company cited absences and concerns about the worker’s forklift skills and reliability. He disputed the number of absence days and said some leave had been approved. The Court noted that he had not been told of the alleged failings, had been praised by his supervisor and appeared to have management approval for some leave.
