The Labour Court recommended that Kingspan General Steel Products Limited recognise Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s right to represent employees who were union members. The recommendation was signed on 6 July 1994. The union said workers had joined it and sought its help on workplace issues, while management had not met with it to discuss representation. Kingspan said an elected works committee had represented staff since 1984 and argued that adding a second negotiating body could harm employee relations. The Court considered the union’s position reasonable.
