In 1994, the Labour Court recommended that Central Hotel and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union negotiate a phased introduction of P.E.S.P. pay provisions and 19 days’ annual leave for eight house-assistants. The recommendation was signed on 22 April 1994. The Court also recommended negotiations over service-charge distribution, with the existing management participant retained on a red-circle basis. It did not recommend concessions on the union’s other claims. In reaching its recommendation, the Court considered corrected earnings information, the hotel’s financial performance and recent redundancies. The union sought improved pay and conditions; the hotel said it was suffering financial losses.
