The Labour Court recommended that An Post apologise to Brian Rooney for communication errors and provide him with a work reference distinct from its standard one. The recommendation was signed on 8 November 1993.
The Court found An Post had mistakenly offered Rooney a full-time temporary position before withdrawing it, and had wrongly attributed his absence before Christmas 1992 to illness rather than a family crisis. It said serious communication inaccuracies had caused and prolonged the dispute. Rooney had also said he did not receive aptitude-test results and that his reference was inadequate.
The Court recommended that Rooney accept the apology and reference as the final resolution and pursue the dispute no further.
