Labour Court urges Technical Engineering And Electrical Union to negotiate on Irish Glass Bottle proposals

In 1993, the Labour Court recommended that the Technical Engineering And Electrical Union begin negotiations on Irish Glass Bottle Limited’s rationalisation proposals for 45 fitters. The recommendation was dated 22 July 1993. The union cited job security and opposed transferring maintenance work to machine operatives or management. Irish Glass Bottle Limited said rationalisation was needed to address poor quality and lack of competitiveness. The Court warned that entrenched positions could worsen relations and urged negotiations on the company’s proposals dated 1 May 1992.
