In 1993, the Labour Court recommended that craftsmen at Tara Mines begin operating radios immediately, while preserving the Amalgamated Engineering and Electrical Union, Technical Engineering and Electrical Union, and Union of Construction Allied Trades and Technicians’ right to make a further claim under the procedures agreement. The recommendation was dated 22 July 1993. The Court also recommended that Tara Mines pay the 3% Programme for Economic and Social Progress increase from the agreed date. The dispute concerned whether radio use had to wait for consultation and whether the pay increase depended on immediate use of the radios.
