In 1993, the Labour Court recommended that Cantrell And Cochrane (Dublin) Limited offer four casual workers £300 each for the loss of their permanent-worker plus-payments. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union was to accept the payments. The recommendation was dated 22 July 1993. The Court also recommended that the workers thereafter receive the same plus-payment as other casual employees. The union said the workers had accepted an arrangement in return for the payments; the company argued that after rationalisation their work had changed to holiday and sickness cover, so the payments were no longer justified.
