In 1993, the Labour Court recommended that Virginia Milk Products Limited pay a worker £40,000 in full and final settlement of a redundancy dispute, inclusive of statutory entitlements. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union represented the worker. The recommendation was dated 22 April 1993.
The Court described the circumstances as unusual: the worker had refused redeployment, lost a pension rebate amid negotiating difficulties and had earnings inflated by manning arrangements before boilerhouse changes. The union undertook that the case would not set a precedent.
