In 1992, the Labour Court recommended a study of the Auto O.S.I. operation at Sola A.D.C. Lenses after the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought a higher differential for operators. The recommendation was signed on 30 November. The union said inspection workloads had risen, while the company disputed that and argued automation reduced physical work. The Court recommended that the company or independent engineers study the operation, share a report with the union and allow its engineer to validate the findings. It considered the separate line-setters' pay claim inappropriate at that time under the pay programme.
