In 1991, the Labour Court recommended that Heiton Mc Ferran Limited make no concessions on the Amalgamated Transport And General Workers Union's claims to remove the productivity-bonus ceiling, pay bonuses during sick leave, and introduce long-service awards and a Christmas bonus. The recommendation was signed on 11 October 1991. The Court found that the bonus ceiling had been understood and agreed in the 1981 negotiations. The company said workers absent through illness could not contribute to productivity and noted that its employee profit-sharing scheme took service into account, while workers received a Christmas-period bonus.
