In 1991, the Labour Court recommended closing the dispute over disciplinary cases involving three rail operative workers at Heuston Station and deleting references to the cases from their personal records. The recommendation was signed on 14 June 1991. The workers had refused instructions to take on additional train duties. The Court said they should have followed management instructions under protest, but recommended deleting the record references given the history of the dispute. The National Bus And Rail Union and Irish Rail had put understandings in place that were expected to reduce or eliminate the difficulty.
