In 1991, the Labour Court recommended a £0.50 increase in daily subsistence for Cablelink Limited staff and an annual formula to review the allowance. It did not recommend extra subsistence for staff working after the canteen closed. For staff transferred from company vans to cars, it recommended six weeks at the full drive allowance and six weeks at half rate, after which the allowance should cease. The Court found no merit in a petrol allowance claim for an employee without a car who received taxi fares. It also recommended a 10% increase in mileage rates, excluding petrol, from 1 January 1991. The recommendation was signed on 24 January 1991. The parties were Cablelink Limited, Amalgamated Transport and General Workers' Union, and Services Industrial Professional Technical Union.
