Labour Court rejects union compensation claim over Aer Rianta shop refurbishment

The Labour Court rejected the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union's compensation claim for about 40 commercial assistants after the Duty Free Shop at Shannon Airport was refurbished. The recommendation was dated 25 March 1991. The union cited difficult working conditions, extra effort and a possible effect on commission. Aer Rianta said the work was needed to protect its business and employment. The Court said the refurbishment protected the business and jobs, and that disruption to working conditions was inherent in this type of work. It found no exceptional grounds to recommend compensation.
