In 1991, the Labour Court rejected Pettitts Supermarket’s appeal, leaving in place a recommendation that a kiosk worker receive an extra £10 a week for additional checkout duties. The decision was signed on 22 March 1991. The Irish Distributive and Administrative Trade Union said the kiosk had no checkout facilities and the worker faced pressure handling customers’ baskets. Pettitts Supermarket argued she already earned £10 a week more than colleagues and that checking a few items at busy times was reasonable. The Court found no grounds to alter the recommendation.
