The Labour Court recommended that Modern Display Artists Ltd pay a dismissed general operative £7,000 in ex gratia severance, in full and final settlement of his claim. It did not recommend reinstatement. The recommendation was signed on 6 October 1989. The worker had been employed at the company's Ringsend base since the mid-1970s. Modern Display Artists Ltd cited incidents including a workplace row and alleged attendance and day-card irregularities; the worker denied the allegations leading to his dismissal. The Irish Transport And General Worker's Union sought his reinstatement and compensation for lost earnings. The Court said the relationship of trust and confidence no longer existed and saw little prospect of reinstatement. It recommended the severance payment instead.
