The Labour Court recommended that Celmac Limited pay a fitter's helper his twice-yearly bonus for last Christmas, this year's annual leave and next Christmas, as notice of the payment's termination. The recommendation was signed on 6 October 1989. The Irish Transport And General Workers' Union said the October 1988 wage agreement had not clearly ended the bonus. Celmac Limited argued that the agreement replaced it with weekly and quarterly production bonuses. The Court cited ambiguity in the settlement terms when making its recommendation.
