The Labour Court recommended that Aer Rianta and the Air Rianta Group Of Unions begin talks on a formal profit-sharing or performance-related bonus system for about 1,660 workers. It said the union group's bonus claim was not sustainable without clear, agreed criteria for calculating and paying a bonus.
The union group sought a bonus equivalent to one month's salary, pointing to increased profits and productivity. Aer Rianta opposed the claim, citing the Programme for National Recovery and its pay relationship with Aer Lingus. The recommendation was signed on 6 October 1989.
