In 1989, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding Shopworkers' Trade Union Group's claim for extra pay for locomotive fuellers handling and testing electric tail lamps at Connolly and Inchicore. The Court said the work was appropriate to fuellers, had been accepted by fuellers at other depots, and the testing was too minimal to justify additional payment. Iarnrod Eireann had argued that placing and testing the lamps fitted within engineering operatives' work and normal working day. The recommendation was signed on 14 September 1989.
