In 1989, the Labour Court did not recommend conceding the Irish Transport And General Workers' Union's claims against Texaco (Ireland) Limited over shift changes at its Dublin and Cork terminals. The recommendation was dated 21 August 1989. In Dublin, the union sought to retain the three-cycle shift rate for four supervisors; the allowance fell from 22% to 16 2/3%, a loss of £1,500 a year. Texaco said the change formed part of a recovery plan accepted by the union and that pension entitlements were protected through 31 January 1994. At the Cork depot, the union sought compensation for a revised roster that removed the day shift for two supervisors. Texaco said that change was part of the accepted plan and involved no financial loss. The Court said it was not justified in recommending concession of the union's claims.
