Labour Court recommends off-site medical services for Guinness craftsmen

In 1989, the Labour Court recommended that the Guinness Skilled Group Of Unions accept proposed reductions to medical services at Arthur Guinness Son & Company (Dublin) Limited. It also recommended that the Company make off-site services available to the craftsmen covered by the claim. The recommendation was signed on 7 July 1989. The dispute concerned changes to benefits including dentistry, chiropody and physiotherapy. The Group argued the benefits were longstanding employment conditions; the Company said the changes were needed to contain costs and protect its core medical service. The recommendation did not extend other benefits linked to acceptance of the Continuing Competitiveness Plan.
